Underwood Road Conservation Area, Hubbardston, MA

This beautiful 65-acre wooded property was generously donated to North County Land Trust by a local family who wish to remain anonymous. Due to its location in the Ware River Watershed, the DCR Division of Water Supply Protection purchased a conservation restriction on the property through the Forest Legacy Quabbin to Wachusett project. The woodland is a mix of white pine, oak and other hardwoods such as red maple and beech. There are two prominent wetland features – a 6-acre red maple swamp along the western edge of the property and a narrow band of poorly drained wetlands associated with a perennial stream corridor that bisects the property. A prominent knoll in the center of the property is accessed by a 1.4-mile trail loop that nicely highlights much of this property’s natural beauty with several side trails. In May 2019 NCLT proudly opened our first mobility trail especially designed for people with limited mobility and for the GRIT wheelchair.  The trail was named “The Wild Walk” by students at Hubbardston Center School.  NCLT was pleased to partner with the North Quabbin Trails Association on this project.
