Nashua Land & Waters Regional Conservation Partnership

The Nashua Land and Waters Regional Conservation Partnership (RCP) is comprised of a group of regional land protection specialists from conservation organizations, land trusts, state agencies, and environmental non-profits that share a mutual priority – to conserve and connect land across the Nashua River watershed. The RCP is coordinated by North County Land Trust and Nashua River Watershed Association, who provide administrative support and local connections to conservation leaders in the focus communities. Capacity and expertise is provided by Mass Audubon and The Trustees of Reservations. State Agency professionals from Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation and Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game also provide input on projects that align with their agencies’ missions. Monthly meetings are convened at the Trustees’ Doyle Community Center in Leominster, MA, to discuss overlapping priorities, share institutional knowledge, and identify conservation opportunities. This collaborative model allows partners to strategically identify and pursue high priority projects across the 32 communities located within the Nashua River watershed, and intersects new and existing funding sources to help accomplish mutual land protection goals. By pooling resources, expertise, and conservation networks, this approach is designed to ultimately build stronger connections between regional organizations, local conservation partners, and community leaders across the watershed.

Bringing Partners Throughout the Watershed Together to Increase Impact!

A group of people surround a map discussing ideas and sharing information.

All Partners Meeting

The first Nashua Land and Waters RCP Partners Gathering was held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission / Doyle Community Center in Leominster. The gathering was designed to bring partners together around the Nashua River Watershed and the regional conservation partnership. The meeting opened with an introduction to the RCP and watershed, followed by participant introductions. Partners were invited to share regional wins since the group last convened in 2019, including accomplishments they were proud of and opportunities they were excited about. Participants then moved into small-group discussions focused on:

  • short- and long-term priorities
  • capacity needs and funding gaps
  • land conservation priorities

A carousel activity allowed groups to review each other’s notes, identify common themes, and find ways to support one another. The group then shifted to a map strategy session, using large regional maps to identify conservation strongholds, growth opportunities, and active projects. The meeting wrapped up with closing discussion and next steps. Partners were asked to fill out a survey and from the survey data and the notes from the carousel and map sessions valuable data was collected about our RCP area and members.
