North County Land Trust (NCLT) is excited to announce a new project at Longview Conservation Area that will promote passive outdoor recreation and the enjoyment of nature on the southern slope of Mount Watatic. NCLT aims to refresh the space by installing a new pavilion structure with seating at the south-facing overlook to foster the quiet enjoyment of nature.
Longview Conservation Area, located in Ashby, Massachusetts, was conserved in 2021 as part of a larger effort to protect 200+ acres of land in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game (DFG).
Visitors to Longview Conservation Area will be able to enjoy the renovated location as a peaceful sanctuary. ”The space is envisioned to feature stunning views on the southern slope of Mount Watatic, in a beautiful outdoor space that is excellent for observing wildlife and experiencing nature” says Faith Salter, Executive Director of NCLT. “We hope that visitors of Longview will use the overlook for rest and relaxation in a natural setting,”
NCLT is devoted to ensuring that this space becomes accessible to all nature lovers by revitalizing the area through various updates. To ensure visitor safety, NCLT will implement necessary changes, including the removal of the site’s abandoned farmhouse and installation of a pavilion in its place. Possible modifications being considered include the renovation of the parking area and access road to improve visitor reachability and an accessible trail for users of all abilities. Visitors will be able to access the outlook by parking at the end of Hardy Road or on foot from “Pepper House” parking area off Rte. 119.
Once complete, the project will make Longview Conservation Area more accessible, providing nature lovers with a restful place to enjoy the surrounding scenery and natural atmosphere. The overlook at Longview will allow visitors the opportunity to deepen their relationship with nature, creating a space of quiet observation, education, and community gathering.
