Forty Nine Acres of land to be conserved in Ashburnham to protect Lovell Reservoir in Fitchburg

NCLT is facilitating the conservation 49 acres of watershed protection land in Ashburnham for the City of Fitchburg. Jane Kerlinger and Scott Sibary will place a Conservation Restriction (CR)on their land on Russell Hill Road which is in a source water area for the Lovell Reservoir in Fitchburg. NCLT worked with John Deline, Fitchburg Deputy Commissioner of Water Supply, to secure a Drinking Water Supply Grant to help fund the conservation restriction.

Governor Charlie Baker recently announced the grant award and said “Investing in these important projects will make our communities more resilient to climate change, protect critical drinking water supplies, and ensure communities benefit from access to open space.”

Jane and Scott’s property abuts the Jewell Hill Conservation Area and over 2500 acres of protected water supply land. They will allow a trail to cross their land that ties into the beautiful trails of Jewell Hill. Their CR is part of a larger conservation project to create a trail from the Jewell Hill Conservation Area to the Midstate Trail and protect the land over which it crosses. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as they develop!
