Event Type

Join North County Land Trust and wetlands scientist Greg Russo to explore and collect data in hopes of certifying a potential vernal pool at Ebenezer Keyes Conservation Area. We will explain some vernal pool ecology, the importance of vernal pools, what species we are looking for, and how to identify them.

Please park at the end of Keyes Road, Gardner – there is a small parking lot and street parking is also available. The program area is a very short walk from parking, no strenuous hiking for this one!

Please wear or bring waders or high waterproof boots and polarized sunglasses if you have them. Bring sunscreen and bug spray if you need it but do not apply before you arrive, these will be used only if necessary as samples can’t be handled if you’ve applied these to your skin (they will damage any specimens we will collect). Feel free to bring snacks, water, cameras, or anything else you will need to be comfortable outdoors for the session.

Please note: We will clean our boots to sanitize them before we enter the pool to be sure we aren’t spreading any pathogens we may have previously encountered. Please be sure to brush off any dirt/debris on your boots before arriving.
