North County Land Trust’s Dwelly Farm Conservation Area has been a years long habitat improvement project to create a native haven for flora and fauna in Templeton, MA. The goal from the start has been to create an improved habitat for native plants and animals on what once was a dairy farm, left alone to grow a hearty crop of invasive glossy buckthorn and poor quality pine. For the last 4 years focus has been on removing invasives and planting native wildflowers, bushes, and trees to bolster native habitat across the property. Emily Merlino, Stewardship Manager for NCLT will discuss what has been done to improve the property and what has been successful so far. She will be joined by Tom Ashton, a trained forester and board member of Worcester County Conservation District, who will also provide some insight into the forest health and share a forestry perspective to add to the pollinator habitat and invasive removal aspects of the walk.
Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather. Parking is available in the trailhead lot as well as the roadside on the kiosk side of the road.
This program is in partnership with the Worcester County Conservation District, check out their 2024 plant sale at https://worcesterconservation.org/annual-spring-seedling-sale-2024/
