What’s hiding in vernal pools?
It’s spring, which means plants and animals in the woodlands and wetlands at the sanctuary are starting to wake up. As the ground thaws and the snow and ice melt, an incredible migration to little woodland hollows called vernal pools takes place.
Join BSC Group’s Senior Ecologist, Matt Burne, on an exploration of the fascinating wildlife that can be found in vernal pool habitats in the early spring. Matt will lead a walk on the Keyes Conservation Area property on May 7 from 1-3pm, where we will look for evidence of breeding amphibians, see what invertebrates are in the water, and learn about these wonderful biodiversity hot-spots. Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring your sense of wonder!
