SUMMARY:Silent Sparks: The Wondrous World of Fireflies
DESCRIPTION:Fireflies are among the most wondrous creatures on Earth\, sile
 nt sparks that inspire awe and delight. Yet for most of us\, fireflies rem
 ain shrouded in mystery: How do these creatures make light? What gives wit
 h all that flashing? Are fireflies disappearing? In this talk noted firefl
 y expert and author Sara Lewis dives into the mysterious world of fireflie
 s to reveal hidden secrets about their luminous lives. We will journey fro
 m the meadows of New England\, to the rivers of Japan and the mangroves of
  Malaysia to hear remarkable stories of firefly romance\, treachery\, and 
 poison.\n\nSara Lewis\, a Professor of Biology at Tufts University\, has s
 pent the past thirty years studying the luminous lives of fireflies. In ad
 dition to numerous scientific articles on firefly evolution\, Lewis has gi
 ven a TED talk and has written popular articles for Scientific American\, 
 Undark\, CNN\, The Guardian\, and Natural History.\n\nJoin NCLT and the Le
 ominster Public Library on July 5th at 7pm in the community room at the Le
 ominster Public Library for this free talk. Space is limited so be sure to
